Graylog 5.2 Error: line 23: /usr/share/graylog-server/jvm/bin/java: Operation not permitted

1. Describe your incident:
I have followed the installation steps for installing Graylog and upon trying to start the service I receive the following error. /usr/share/graylog-server/bin/graylog-server: line 23: /usr/share/graylog-server/jvm/bin/java: Operation not permitted

2. Describe your environment:

  • OS Information:
    RHEL 8.9

  • Package Version:
    Graylog 5.2

  • Service logs, configurations, and environment variables:
    System is initially configured using DISA STIG 8.9 no GUI Profile. System is STIGd and also is in an air gapped network.

3. What steps have you already taken to try and solve the problem?
I have tried modifying the server.conf file, chmodding the files

4. How can the community help?
Honestly just a little bit of help on somethings to check that might be the issue.

Hello @jbradley

You can alter the version of java Graylog calls by editing this line JAVA=/usr/bin/java within the /etc/sysconfig/graylog-server config.

Try installing Java 17 and then doing the above.

Thanks so much, that did the trick. Graylog is now active and running. Now just gotta do the rest of the config to get it running. I appreciate all the help
