hi everyone,

Please can anyone help me on create email alert, i work on logs of firewall and switch, I did an alert test, I received this error ! just a clear answer please

Use search button instead of the create new topic button.

Why do you think anyone will solve your problem if you don’t try do anything?
You don’t share anything about your system. I also can tell, “my car doesn’t work”, could you fix it, or suggest some checks (of course over a topic)?

anyway thnaks @macko003 , I am so pressed for time and I have a project also it is just my first time with Grylog solution . i have a deadline

I spend two years with graylog day-by-day, I administrate many clusters, big ones also (sum 40+ servers), and I learned only one thing, I don’t know enough about graylog.
Search, search, search, and search. I think this one hour what you spend with this topic enough for read graylog docs about email alert, and put your error message to google or the community’s search, and read other topics to solve this problem.

Thanks a lot , it works email alert @tmacgbay i did just a test of alert but please i need to know the need for alert in graylog…the need of email alert log in wich case…why we need alert email

I am not clear on what you are asking. Only enable it if YOU have a need to be alerted of a condition via e-mail.

  1. The users won´t always have a look on graylog
  2. But they don´t want to miss really important things
  3. You could use it just as a reminder, like “look here, there are 3 unexpected errors. take a look”

Furthermore It´s useful for yourself if you use Graylog for live-errors. For example you could send in your syslogs and make an alert for every important error-message. You don´t have to… But you could :slight_smile:
Theoretically you could replace a bit of you monitoring software with this and get E-Mails when something happens.

Just create your Dashboards at first and in a time you will get the idea of the alert function…
