Is there any limit on how many files match the filename patterns we can specify
while configuring collector?

AFAIK there should be virtually no limit to the number of files you want to monitor which you can add to the collector configuration. In the end it depends on the specific collector being used (Filebeat, nxlog, or something different) which limits apply.
Are you having issues with it?
Just had some weird issue - sidecar crashed but filebeat was running - after service restart
got tow instances of filebeat and complain about files number, stopped service, killed old filebeat
and started service - seems to be fine now
