What are "Active connections"?

1. Describe your incident:

I have 1 “Active connection” (and 1 total) under my raw TCP input, but earlier in the day, I had 2 and 75 total. What do these numbers mean? Why would I have 75 connections?

2. Describe your environment:

  • OS Information: CentOS 7

3. What steps have you already taken to try and solve the problem?
I have tried searching it up online, but could not find something that fully explains the web UI.

4. How can the community help?
Could anyone please answer this question in simple terms, as I am new to the technical field?

Hello @QueenOfCode

The “total connections” metric is simply the total number of TCP connections that have been established (and possibly have also been closed) over the lifetime of the TCP input. A high number here is no problem (in contrast to a very high number of “active connections” which would hint to clients not properly closing the opened TCP connections).
