# Generate Chart Plots Message Count and Not The Data Value

I have some Fortigate firewall logs coming into Graylog. I’ve built out most of my extractors, starting to build my dashboard and running into an issue.

I’m trying to get a chart of bandwidth transmit and bandwidth receive. I finally have head wrapped around extractors and have most of that setup. But here I run into a problem. If I do “quick values” it gives me the chart and the correct values. However, when I try to generate a chart it doesn’t display the values, it instead displays the number of messages.

I’m sure this is all very simple and due to some fundamental lack of understanding on my part but I can’t for the life of me figure it out. I’ve searched the forums, support documentation and google.

I’m on version 3.
